Vigilante Anthology SUBMISSION Guidelines

Mission

To create a stand-out anthology by reviving the dynamism and attention to craft that marked the best short fiction from the classic pulp-magazine era, with themes and settings updated for the twenty-first century.

Genre

Crime, action/adventure, speculative, dystopian.

Story Length

1,000-6,000 words.

Some Specifics

Practically any subject matter or story form is acceptable, provided the writer can make it captivating and leave the reader satisfied. We are not focused on, or limited by, political correctness or social justice agendas. We do not intend to publish pornography or other wholly gratuitous appeals to the baser instincts. Sex and violence happen, but always in particular and more important contexts. Stories may be rated R, but never X.

Hook

Stories should have a unique angle and/or a surprising twist. As Kurt Vonnegut put it, "Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted." (The rest of Vonnegut's advice is worth bearing in mind.) Our short-story ideal is an intriguing anecdote—a story worth telling in its own right—made even better by a writer's flair and expertise.
